Short answer

A standard one-time clean of a New York City studio costs about $145 in Brooklyn and $150 in Manhattan before 8.875% sales tax: the median of published company rates, which run from $130 to $151. A deep clean costs about $250–$275 and a move-out clean $277–$290. A standard studio clean usually takes 1.5 to 3 hours, and a deep clean 3 to 4 hours.

Small apartments are a big part of New York. Studios and one-bedrooms make up 54% of Manhattan’s 927,000 homes and 34% of Brooklyn’s 1.1 million, according to the city’s 2023 Housing and Vacancy Survey. The average Manhattan studio rental is 489 square feet, and the average Brooklyn studio 479 (RentCafe, August 2026).

Small doesn’t mean cheap to clean, though. A studio has the same kitchen and bathroom as a one-bedroom, and those are the slowest parts of any clean. Below you’ll find what NYC companies actually charge for a studio, how long the job takes, when hourly beats a flat rate, and a checklist for each type of clean.

Where the numbers come from: prices that cleaning companies publish on their own websites, checked October 1, 2026. They match our Brooklyn and Manhattan House Cleaning Price Index (October 2026 edition). Sources are listed at the end.

Studio Cleaning Prices in NYC by Type of Clean

Medians rounded to the nearest $5; where fewer than three companies publish a price, only the range is shown. Companies that serve both boroughs use one price list. The Brooklyn medians come out lower because they include Brooklyn-only Diamond Maids. Hourly minimums are usually 2–3 hours.

For comparison, the median standard clean of a 1-bedroom is $155 in Brooklyn and $160 in Manhattan. Prices for every apartment size are in the full Brooklyn and Manhattan price indexes.

“—” = no studio price published; “hourly” = billed by the hour. Lazy Susans’ tax-included price is converted to pre-tax ($146.97 ÷ 1.08875). Synergy Maids publishes the same rate card as Maid Marines, so it counts once. Listed for comparison only; TotalClean isn’t affiliated with any of these companies. Our own flat rates are on the pricing page.

Why a Studio Costs Almost as Much as a 1-Bedroom

The median gap between a studio and a 1-bedroom is only about $10 in both boroughs ($145 vs $155 in Brooklyn, $150 vs $160 in Manhattan). At individual companies it’s similar: $132 vs $138 at Diamond Maids, $149 vs $159 at Maid Marines.

The reason is where the time goes. Dusting and floors scale with square footage, but the kitchen and bathroom don’t: a studio’s stove, sink, toilet, and shower take as long as a 1-bedroom’s. Hourly bookings also come with a 2–3 hour minimum, and a typical studio clean fits inside it, so there’s little room for the price to drop.

How Long Does It Take to Clean a Studio Apartment?

About 2 hours for a standard clean. Published estimates for a studio run from 1.5 to 3 hours, and a deep clean takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Source Standard Deep
Diamond Maids1.5–2 hours—
Maid Sailors1.5–2 hours—
Maid Marines2 hours—
New York’s Best Maids2–3 hours3–4 hours
Elite Maids NY1 cleaner3 hours—
TotalCleanour estimate, studio or 1-bedroom1.5–2.5 hours3–5 hours

Most companies don’t say how many cleaners their estimate assumes; Elite Maids NY specifies one. Move-out cleans are often staffed as a team: Diamond Maids books move-in/out with 3 cleaners and a 2-hour minimum.

What makes it take longer
A first clean or a long gap since the last one, grease in the kitchenette, pet hair, crowded surfaces and floors, add-ons like the inside of the oven or fridge, and building logistics such as doorman sign-in or a service elevator.
Two cleaners are faster, not cheaper
Hourly rates are per cleaner, so a second cleaner shortens the visit without lowering the bill. It helps when you’re racing a lease deadline or a key handover.

Flat Rate or Hourly: Which Is Cheaper for a Studio?

Usually the flat rate. Hourly bookings come with a 2–3 hour minimum, and for a studio that minimum often costs more than the company’s own flat price. We compared the six companies that publish both:

Company Flat studio rate Hourly minimum Hourly costs
Lazy Susans$135$1953 hrs × $65+$60
Diamond Maids$132$1682 cleaners × 2 hrs × $42+$36
Elite Maids NY$130$1653 hrs × $55+$35
Home Cleaning NYC$137$1502 hrs × $75+$13
Maid Sailors$150$1602 hrs × $80+$10
Maid Marines$149$1402 hrs × $70−$9

Before sales tax. Lazy Susans’ flat rate converted from its tax-included price.

At five of the six companies, the hourly minimum costs $10 to $60 more than the flat studio price. Hourly makes sense when the job isn’t a typical studio: a studio over about 1,000 square feet (Home Cleaning NYC switches those to hourly), an apartment that hasn’t been cleaned in months, or a partial job such as just the kitchen and bathroom.

Independent cleaners are the budget option. On Care.com they list $23–$29 an hour in Brooklyn and Manhattan (September 2026), roughly $46–$86 for a 2–3 hour studio clean. They’re usually uninsured, which can be a problem in co-ops and condos that ask vendors for a certificate of insurance.

What a Studio Clean Includes: Standard vs Deep vs Move-Out

A standard clean resets the surfaces you use every day. A deep clean adds the build-up: grease, grout, baseboards, and the places behind and under things. A move-out clean covers the empty apartment, inside every cabinet and appliance, to the standard a landlord inspects.

Task Standard Deep Move-out
Main room
Dust reachable surfaces, shelves, and window sills
Vacuum and mop floors
Baseboards, door frames, switches, and handlesspot
Radiator or radiator cover—
Under the bed and behind movable furniture—
Inside the closet and drawers (empty)——
Kitchenette
Counters, sink, stovetop, and appliance fronts
Degrease backsplash, cabinet fronts, and range hood—
Inside the oven and fridgeadd-onadd-on
Inside the cabinetsadd-onadd-on
Bathroom
Toilet, sink, mirror, tub or shower, floor
Scrub grout and treat mildew on caulk—
Exhaust fan cover and behind the toilet—

Scope varies by company, so check the checklist before you book. Inside-appliance add-ons cost $14 each for the oven or fridge and $21 for cabinets at CleanWhale, and $34.50 each for the oven or fridge at Diamond Maids. More detail: deep clean vs standard and what’s included in a deep clean.

Four things that are different about cleaning a studio

Cooking grease travels
The kitchen shares air with the bed and the sofa, so a sticky film builds up on cabinet tops, shelves, and light fixtures. A deep clean spends real time degreasing the whole room, not just the stove.
Windowless bathrooms
Many NYC studio bathrooms rely on an exhaust fan instead of a window, so mildew shows up in grout and caulk first. A clean fan cover helps the fan do its job between visits.
Radiators and heat season
NYC heat season runs from October 1 to May 31. Dust on radiators and covers bakes once the heat comes on, so early fall is the time to have them cleaned.
Lofts, Murphy beds, and storage
Studios use every inch: loft beds, Murphy beds, high shelves. Mention them when you book so the crew knows what to reach and what to leave alone.

What Raises (or Lowers) a Studio Quote

Rate cards are the starting point. These are the published extras that move a studio price, and the discounts that bring it down.

  • Deep or move-out scope: +$100 to +$115.50 for a deep clean and +$140 for move-in/out at companies that price them as add-ons (Home Cleaning NYC, Maid Sailors, Diamond Maids).
  • Inside appliances and cabinets: $14 to $34.50 each for the oven or fridge; $21 for cabinets (CleanWhale, Diamond Maids).
  • A second bathroom: +$30 to +$45 (Maid Sailors $30, Diamond Maids and Elite Maids NY $35, Lazy Susans $45); a half bath is $17.50 at Diamond Maids.
  • Size: Home Cleaning NYC moves studios over 1,000 sq ft to hourly pricing ($75 an hour).
  • Same-day booking: $89 an hour instead of $69 at The NYC Maid.
  • Manhattan buildings: co-ops and condos often ask vendors for a certificate of insurance (COI) before the first visit, doorman sign-in and service elevators add time, and crews driving below 60th Street pay the $9 peak congestion toll ($14.40 for small trucks).
  • Sales tax: most published prices are before NYC’s 8.875% sales tax, which is added at checkout.
  • Recurring service: the usual discount is 20% off weekly, 15% off every two weeks, and 10% off monthly. At Maid Sailors that turns a $150 studio clean into $120 weekly or $127.50 every two weeks; Diamond Maids charges $122 weekly instead of $132.
  • Your own supplies: $59 an hour instead of $69 at The NYC Maid.
Example: a Brooklyn studio with the oven and fridge

CleanWhale “One-room” clean $151 + inside oven $14 + inside fridge $14 = $179. Add 8.875% sales tax ($15.89) and the total is $194.89.

How to Get an Accurate Studio Quote (and a Faster Clean)

  1. 1.Name the type of clean. Standard if the place was cleaned in the last month or so; deep if it’s the first professional clean in a long time; move-out if the apartment will be empty.
  2. 2.List the extras up front. Inside the oven, fridge, or cabinets, pet hair, a loft bed, interior windows. Extras added on the day cost the most time.
  3. 3.Mention unusual size. If your studio is around 800–1,000 sq ft or more, say so; some companies price larger studios by the hour.
  4. 4.Sort out building access. Leave a key or written permission with the doorman, ask your management office whether vendors need a COI, and check vendor hours and elevator rules.
  5. 5.Clear surfaces before the visit. Ten minutes putting away dishes, clothes, and paperwork means the time you pay for goes to cleaning, not tidying.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to clean a studio apartment in NYC?

About $145 in Brooklyn and $150 in Manhattan for a standard one-time clean, before 8.875% NYC sales tax. That’s the median of the studio prices NYC cleaning companies publish on their own websites; the published range is $130 to $151 (checked October 1, 2026).

How much is a deep clean for a studio apartment?

About $250 in Brooklyn and $275 in Manhattan (published range $237 to $425, before tax). Several companies price a deep clean as their standard rate plus $100 to $115.50.

How much does move-out cleaning cost for a studio in NYC?

$277 to $290 at the two companies that publish a studio move-out price (Home Cleaning NYC and Maid Sailors), before tax. A common formula is the standard rate plus $140. Some companies bill move-outs by the hour instead, for example $42 per cleaner-hour with 3 cleaners and a 2-hour minimum at Diamond Maids.

How long does it take to clean a studio apartment?

About 2 hours for a standard clean. Published estimates for a studio range from 1.5 to 3 hours. A deep clean takes about 3 to 4 hours, and longer if the kitchen has heavy grease buildup or the apartment hasn’t been cleaned in a while.

Is it cheaper to pay hourly or a flat rate for a studio?

Usually a flat rate. At 5 of the 6 NYC companies that publish both, the minimum hourly booking costs $10 to $60 more than the flat studio price. Hourly makes sense for studios over about 1,000 square feet, very dirty apartments, or partial jobs.

How much does it cost to clean a studio every two weeks?

About $125–$130 per visit before tax. Companies usually take 15% off for every-two-weeks service (20% for weekly, 10% for monthly): Maid Sailors charges $127.50 instead of $150, CleanWhale about $128 instead of $151, and Lazy Susans $135.95 with tax (about $125 before tax). See our recurring cleaning plans.

Why is cleaning a studio almost as expensive as a 1-bedroom?

Because the kitchen and bathroom, the slowest rooms to clean, are the same size in both. The median published price for a studio is only about $10 less than for a 1-bedroom: $145 vs $155 in Brooklyn and $150 vs $160 in Manhattan.

Do NYC cleaning prices include sales tax?

Most published prices don’t. Companies usually add NYC’s 8.875% sales tax at checkout; CleanWhale, for example, sets 8.875% by the job address. A few, like Lazy Susans, show prices with tax included.

Is it cheaper to clean a studio in Brooklyn than in Manhattan?

Slightly: the median standard studio clean is $145 in Brooklyn and $150 in Manhattan. Companies that serve both boroughs use one price list; the Brooklyn median is lower because it includes a Brooklyn-only company with lower rates. In Manhattan, building rules such as certificates of insurance and service elevators can add to a quote.
